Equipment Upgrade
Government Medical College & Hospital, Omandurar, Inaugurates Advanced Orthopaedic Equipment to Enhance Trauma Care, physiotherapy and Patient Services.
CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu – June 4, 2025 – Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Omandurar Government Estate, today announced the inauguration of state-of-the-art orthopaedic equipment, significantly enhancing its capacity for advanced trauma care, complex surgeries, and patient rehabilitation. This major upgrade, valued at ₹3.71 Crores (₹3,71,13,451), was funded through the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Program (TNHSRP) with World Bank assistance and procured via TNMSC.
The new equipment includes advanced imaging systems like
- Skanray High frequency C-ARM system aimed at improving surgical precision
- Ultrasound Doppler to improve the diagnostic accuracy
- High-end physiotherapy tools like shockwave therapy, decompression traction system, shoulder CPM unit for patient recovery and rehab post-surgery
- ICU cots for the patient's welfare
- A smart classroom setup for enhanced state-of-the-art teaching methodologies to undergraduate and postgraduate medical training within the Department of Orthopaedics.

Highlighting the impact on the department, Dr. A. Srinivasan, MS Ortho, Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, added, “The addition of this advanced equipment, particularly for trauma care and rehabilitation, is a game-changer for our department. It enhances our ability to perform intricate surgeries with greater precision, offers comprehensive rehabilitation services, and provides superior training to our postgraduate students. We are now better positioned than ever to serve the orthopaedic needs of our community, especially complex trauma patients.”
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in GMCH Omandurar’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure and provide accessible, high-quality medical services to the people of Tamil Nadu.
